Advisor Associate – Overview

The Advisor Associate plays a key role in delivering an exceptional client experience through technical, financial planning, and investment management support. Working closely with Lead and Senior Advisors, the Associate ensures clients receive personalized, proactive, and comprehensive financial guidance. This position is designed to grow into a Lead Advisor role and beyond.

Primary Focus

The Advisor Associate is dedicated to serving, supporting, and managing client relationships alongside senior advisors. They actively participate in client meetings, help navigate the financial planning process, and ensure follow-through on all tasks and recommendations. Responsibilities include note-taking, plan preparation, and direct engagement with clients to support their goals and decisions.

Most of the Advisor Associate’s time is spent in meetings with a Lead or Senior Advisor, followed by coordinating and delegating tasks to other team members, including Client Service Associates. This role may also handle smaller client relationships independently under supervision.

This position is ideal for recent graduates with a degree in financial planning who are pursuing—or have recently obtained—a professional designation (such as the CFP®).

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a second chair in client meetings—adding value to discussions, capturing action items, and ensuring follow-up.
  • Collaborate with Lead and Senior Advisors to develop and implement comprehensive financial plans, ensuring all recommendations align with the client’s best interests.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their goals, concerns, and values—and translate these into actionable strategies.
  • Coordinate with external professionals (attorneys, CPAs, insurance specialists, etc.) to achieve client service objectives.
  • Manage pre- and post-meeting client engagement, ensuring timely communication and task completion.
  • Prepare financial plans, run projections, and generate reports using financial planning software.
  • Assist with investment analysis, including preparing Investment Policy Statements and portfolio allocation reports.
  • Act as a backup to Lead Advisors for client inquiries and advisory support.
  • Contribute to client communications such as newsletters, market updates, and educational content.
  • Contribute towards firm objectives and projects

Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Emerging technical knowledge in financial planning and investment management.
  • Familiarity with investment advisory compliance and industry regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal—with empathy and active listening.
  • High personal integrity and professionalism with strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and anticipate needs in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Financial Planning or related field.
  • CFP® program graduate or eligible to sit for the CFP® exam.
  • Desire to work directly with clients and develop advisory skills.
  • Consultative mindset with the ability to help clients implement action items.
  • Strong self-leadership, emotional intelligence, and teamwork.
  • Comfort with technology and financial planning software.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: $65,000-$80,000, based on experience
  • Quarterly bonus based on firm performance and individual goals
  • Career track advancement to Lead Advisor and beyond
  • Earning potential through qualified client referrals
  • 401(k) with 3% company contribution (eligible after one year of employment)
  • Profit Sharing / Pension Plan after one year (eligible after one year of employment)
  • Health, Disability, and Life Insurance
